Microelectronic Technologies and Devices


Research activities of MTD are concentrated on the intelligent technologies revolution by developing innovative knowledges of smart materials, renewable energy and device technologies to apply to the various domains including smart nation, sustainable city, and IoT. Our focuses are based on the manipulation and control of electrons, photons and spin at the nanoscale for emerging electronic, photonic and spintronic devices with excellent performance in terms of speed, power consumption, functionality, and ubiquity. Current major research topics include advanced materials and their functionalities, ultra-fast and low power consumption devices/systems, nano-sensors, and MEMS, renewable energy, nanodevices, optotoelectronics, and non-volatile electronic system using nanomagnetism & spintronics.

 

Research Focus



Smart Materials


We focus on the breakthrough research in the physics and engineering of smart materials and their functionalities with emphasis on nanomagnetism, nanomaterials, biomaterials, energy storage, semiconductors, composite materials, topological insulator, and so on.

Renewable Energy


We develop cutting-edge technologies to implement the renewable resources with emphasis on sunlight, recycling of waste heat, vibration, and biofuels for efficient energy conversion and integration into power systems from the macroscale devices for human body to the large-scale systems for buildings and power grid.

Device technologies


We emphasize on the multidisciplinary studies to bridge the discourse of diverse fields of fundamental science and device engineering with emphasis on areas of ultra-fast and ultra-low power information technologies for logic and memory (more Moore) and flexible technologies for bio/medical chips and sensors (more-than-Moore) based on mechanics, nanoelectronics, photonics, and spintronics.
