Curriculum
The EE curriculum enables students to design a customized programme comprising a specific set of modules, tailored to meet their individual interests and career goals. Design is emphasized in the curriculum through various project modules. In the first stage of the programme, students will receive broad-based training which, in addition to establishing a strong foundation in mathematics and computing, will also be immediately exposed to the use of electrical components and equipment in solving fundamental engineering problems in EE. They will also be introduced to the different areas in EE which are driving the technological developments of today. In the second stage, students will enrol in core modules that focus on fundamental knowledge in EE. These core modules provide the essential foundation for a variety of specialised technical areas in EE.

During their senior years of study, students may specialize in certain fields of EE through their selection of 28 MCs of elective modules. Students need to choose elective modules from a number of areas of concentrations as follows: Communications & Networks, Integrated Circuits & Embedded Systems, Control, Intelligent Systems & Robotics, Signal Analysis & Machine Intelligence, Microelectronics Technologies & Devices, Microwave and RF, Power & Energy Systems and Bioelectronic Systems. The elective modules in each concentration are categorized as outer-core and depth technical elective modules. An outer core module enables students to achieve a broad understanding of concepts in the particular concentration. A depth technical elective is a higher-level module that provides greater depth and coverage in the particular concentration.

The outer core module are organised in eight areas of concentrations. Students need to read three modules from a minimum of three areas of concentrations of outer core modules to achieve exposure to various facets of EE. To achieve depth, students need to read a minimum of four EE depth electives. All three outer core and four depth electives must add up to at least 28 MCs. By specific choice of electives, EE students will be able to specialise in a variety of areas. Click here for the Industrial tracks available to EE students. Students may take additional EE elective modules to satisfy the Unrestricted Elective Modules (UEM) requirements.
